What’s Nalu’s Story?
Nalu’s Island Grill has been serving Orange County since 2002 and was
the brainchild of Mike, James, and Tony, three laid back surfing buddies
who also share a love for good food.
The inspiration for Nalu’s was a journey, an actual journey (not a metaphorical one),to Hawaii in 2001. The three buddies, while soaking up sun and riding big waves
(or, at least that’s how James remembers it), frequented everything from elusive local dives
to the best legendary restaurants on the islands.
It became apparent to the three that the beach culture was similar to the OC,
but the restaurants were not.
“Dude, we should totally open a restaurant in the OC with our favorite island grinds
and a cool vibe,” said Tony.
“You might be on to something there” Mike concurred, “Genius! But you’re still a kook.”
The three returned inspired to bring good local Hawaiian food to Orange County;
they turned in their ties and laptops for aprons and spatulas (well, James actually kept his laptop,
he’s not so good with a spatula).
And so Nalu’s (means surf in Hawaiian) was conceived, pairing the Island food
and the surf culture they love. Mike, James, and Tony invite you to come (shorts if you got ‘em,
a tie if you’re workin’ for the man) and throw a dart at any of the fresh items on the menu board.
They’re sure you’ll leave stoked about your dining experience.
Live Aloha and Eat It Up!
